If you’ve ever wondered why and what your hearing aids are trying to tell you with their beeping, this article is for you. The why is simple: your hearing aids beep to give you important information or to give you a confirmation of a change you just made. But what are those beeps saying? Let’s take a look at a typical day from morning until night in the life of your hearing aids.
Beeps In the morning ☕
🔔 Startup beeps - your hearing aids need to wake up just like you do
What you’ll hear: 11 beeps for each hearing aid. This happens as soon as you take them out of the charging case so you may or may not hear them depending on how quickly you put them on - and that’s ok!
Purpose: Buffer time so you can put the hearing aids in your ears before they start amplifying. This way, your hearing aids won’t whistle at you while you put them on.

🔔 App beeps & push button beeps
What you’ll hear:
Depends on the change you make. Let’s break it down for you.
Changing volume
Volume changes in app = 1 beep
Mute in app = 1 beep
Quick press on right aid (to increase volume) = 1 beep
Quick press on left aid (to decrease volume) = 1 beep
Maximum volume reached = 1 beep at a lower tone
Minimum volume reached = 1 beep at a lower tone
Changing environments (can be done in app or with a 2 second hold on either push button)
All around = 1 beep
Restaurant = 2 beeps
Music = 3 beeps
Outdoor = 4 beeps
Changing sound equalizer settings
Turning on a quick action (speech clarity, noise filter, bass boost, treble boost, etc) = 1 beep
Turning off a quick action = 1 beep
Changing bass/middle/treble = 1 beep
Purpose: For all of the above, the purpose of the beep is to give you an auditory confirmation of the change you just made.
🔔 Streaming beeps
If you’ve allowed streaming from your mobile device, you may hear alerts for calls, texts, and other notifications coming from your phone. These aren’t beeps that your hearing aids are making, but you may hear them through your hearing aids.
You can choose whether to hear these alerts and other media through your hearing aids since the audio routing settings are part of your mobile device. You can follow these easy instructions to set up your streaming preferences.
Beeps (you may hear) in the evening 🫖🌙 🔔
🔔 Low battery beeps
Keep in mind that your hearing aids can hold a charge for up to two full days so it’s very rare that you’d hear these low battery warnings unless you didn’t charge the evening before.
What you’ll hear:
4 descending beeps - a little like Beethoven’s 5th! This will be in the hearing aid that needs to be charged and will happen once every 15 minutes.
Purpose: To let you know it’s time to charge.
Not hearing any beeps? This is a sign that your hearing aids need to be cleaned.
